About the Project
Our client is working with a specialty industrial material commonly used in the polymer processing industry. The product in question contains a complex mix of organic compounds, inorganic fillers, and functional additives. The goal of this project is to analyze the lab test results and reverse-engineer a formulation that is both practically viable and cost-effective.
You’ll receive detailed lab reports that may include techniques such as:
- ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma)
- TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis)
- FTIR (Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)
- Ash Content Analysis
- Acid Digestion Method
Your role will be to interpret this data to:
- Identify the material classes present in the sample
- Estimate the component proportions
- Suggest substitute ingredients or formulation improvements
- Provide a methodology or reasoning for your approach
The end goal is to understand the product’s formulation to either improve its performance or reduce production costs without compromising quality.
What We’re Looking For
This role requires a solid foundation in chemical or materials engineering, especially with experience in polymer science and formulation chemistry.
Key Skills Needed:
- Understanding of chemical composition and materials behavior
- Proficient in analyzing results from ICP, TGA, FTIR, and ash tests
- Familiarity with polymer additives, stabilizers, and plastic formulation techniques
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to estimate proportions and model formulations
- Basic proficiency in Excel or similar tools for calculation and tabulation
Deliverables for This Role
Once selected, you will be expected to deliver the following:
- A breakdown of estimated components based on the lab data
- A formulation table listing possible ingredients with their estimated percentages
- A brief report outlining your methodology, assumptions, and rationale behind the suggested formulation
These deliverables will help the client understand how to replicate or modify the material for performance optimization or cost efficiency.
Why Apply?
This is a unique chance to work on a highly technical, hands-on project that lets you apply your analytical thinking and materials knowledge to a real-world application. Whether you are a freelancer, a consulting chemist, or an academic with industry experience, this short-term assignment could be both professionally rewarding and a great addition to your portfolio.
